The European Cultural Foundation is an independent foundation based in the Netherlands that has been operating across Europe for nearly 60 years. Our guiding principles have us committed to the whole of Europe and its neighbouring regions but we do target our support to where it is most needed. We champion and transmit cultural exchange and new forms of artistic expression.
The Youth & Media Programme supports and shows creative media expression by young talented people in Europe. We seek to include the perspectives of a new generation of European documentary makers, and provide access where it is not evident. We are NOW looking for creative short documentaries. All productions will be part of a professional selection procedure at the renowned International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA, 18 – 28 November 2010 in Amsterdam).
What sort of videos fit in the scope of the programme?
We are looking for videos that:
If you're a European (EU or non-EU), aged between 18 and 35, and have something to say about how multilingualism affects the young Euro-generation, NISI MASA invites you to participate in their POLYGLOT video contest!
We are seeking works of maximum length 5 minutes, in two categories:
- Video Portraits (Documentaries on "My multilingualism") Do you speak different languages on a regular basis? Describe the linguistic environment you live in, and how it affects you personally.
International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) 2010: The deadline for film entry is 1 August 2010 for documentaries completed after 1 April 2010.
For 2010, IDFA has decided to abandon the IDFA Competition for Short Documentary. However, this does not mean that IDFA will not screen films shorter than 30/45 minutes. Quite the contrary! IDFA still calls for great shorts.

Istanbul Express: Exploring Multilingualism across Europe is a filmmaking workshop aiming to explore common issues about languages. Participants aged 18 - 30 will answer these questions in a stimulating atmosphere, far away from clichés and preconceived ideas. They will meet locals from stopover cities, travellers in the train. They will see the cultural differences with their own eyes during these long trips. Crossing the multiple borders and experiencing different linguistic situations first-hand may be the best way to understand them.

During the IDFA festival in Amsterdam (19 - 29 November) CJP (youth discount pass) and de Volkskrant (Dutch newspaper) organize together with IDFA a documentary workshop for people between 16 and 30 years old. The idea is to make a mini documentary using the `Kuleshov Effect`, by using already existing video material and giving it a new meaning. The workshop will be held in Dutch, so understanding the Dutch language is a must!
